UV-C and Streptococcus A Bacteria

With an increase in streptococcus bacteria, we are here to look at what it is, who is at risk and how to avoid spread within your community.

We first looked at the rising cases throughout the UK and found the awful news of the deaths of several children. With lockdown’s over the pasted two years we are all more susceptible to virus like flu’s, common cold’s and bacteria’s such as Streptococcus, Norovirus and other common winter flu’s. We are going to look at steps to help you create and maintain a safe indoor enviorment.

What is Streptococcus?

Strep A - or Group A streptococcus (GAS) - is a type of bacterium found in the throat and on the skin and in most people does not cause any symptoms - known as being "colonised", the NHS says.

However, it can cause a range different illnesses of the nose, throat and lungs.

It can be spread through coughs, sneezes and skin-to-skin contact.

Those carrying the bacteria may have no symptoms, but are just as likely to pass on Strep A as those who have fallen ill.

Symptoms for Strep A include pain when swallowing, fever, swollen tonsils with white patches, swollen neck glands, a high temperature or a skin rash.

What Streptococcus cause?

The bacteria can also cause any of the following:

  • tonsillitis

  • Sore throat

  • pharyngitis

  • scarlet fever

  • skin infections like impetigo or erysipelas

  • pneumonia

Most cases of throat infection will get better on their own without treatment. Skin infections may require antibiotics.

Who is at risk?

You will be at risk of this disease if any of the following apply to you:

  • Have been in close contact with someone that has Strep A

  • over the age of 65

  • have HIV

  • use steroids or other drugs

  • have diabetes, heart disease or cancer

UV-C air purifier will eliminate up to 94% of Strep A cells both in air and on surface

How to minimise risk of Streptococcus?

With the colder weather and evening shortening, it is going to be difficult to create safe indoor environments which dont involve opening windows and socially distancing. Here are some tips to help reduce the spread:

  • Practice good hand hygiene

  • Remove yourself from social occasions when you have symptoms

  • Regularly clean exposed surfaces and use antibacterial hand gel

  • Integrate a UV-C air purifier to kill 94% of Strep cells both in air and on surface

With testing on this bacteria using UV-C germicidal irradiation, we have seen a 94% reduction in cell count and a 99% reduction in single cell exposure. With these reassuring statistics, we want you to know your indoor environment will be protected from both air and surface contamination.

During the pandemic we have seen ‘community free transmission’ eco systems being created where community transmission has stopped with the integration of our air purifiers. With its unique technology our plasma quatro lives up to 30 minutes killing virus and bacteria cells it comes into contact with. This has been extremely effective with COVID-19 virus and kept countless high risk groups safe during the pandemic.

Our air purifiers are uniquely designed for viral and bacterial control in indoor environments. We are passionate about creating and maintaining safe indoor environments and will continue to research and post updated about this ongoing issue.
